When most children are asked “What do you want to be when you leave school”, we would guess the typical answers are footballer, fireman, maybe even school teacher. Very few pupils (if any) will ever say “recruitment consultant”.
But once you do find your way into the recruitment industry, you start to understand the attraction. You become aware that what you do on a daily basis can change individuals lives and career aspiratiions.
Your actions can also considerably improve your clients’ productivity and efficiencies.
Having started in the recruitment arena in 1998, I have recruited into several industries including – it contracting, banking and finance, regulatory affairs (pharma) and for the last 15 years I have been chiefly involved in the automotive sector.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife Belinda.
I have 4 grown up children and 2 grandchildren.
I play lead guitar (I’m afraid guitars are my weakness) in a rock covers band and love watching football, rugby and cricket..............oh and other bands plating live.
I have been fortunate enough to visit some inspirational places for holidays, being sat outside a nice restaraunt in Ciutadella de Menorca however is probably my favourite place to be.
Hong Kong was a very interesting and exciting vacation, this was to meet my daughter who was working in China, she is about to move to New Zealand so watch this space.
I also love cooking and going out for nice meals, real ales and a nice glass of red.
Having started in the recruitment industry in 2012, I have predominantly worked within the automotive sector but have also covered industrial, commercial and engineering sectors.
Away from work I’m an avid sports fan, much to the annoyance of my wife, Victoria. Whether it be formula 1, cricket or football, I’ll watch it.
I’ve been to the British Grand Prix on a number of occasions, I’d love to be part of the Barmy Army at an Ashes Boxing Day test match, but I doubt my wife would allow that. As for the football, whilst I enjoy watching Manchester United (apologies), I much prefer the atmosphere and the banter at my local side, Ashton United, all the way down in the 7th tier, plus there’s no VAR. Always a bonus.
Having thrown myself out of a plane at 12,000ft, done white water rafting and abseiled 300ft into an abyss, my days of going on energetic holidays are now over. Victoria and I now enjoy much more calm holidays, travelling around the Greek Islands, soaking up the sun and enjoying the local cuisine.
If I’m not eating out, you’ll find me in the kitchen living by the motto, ‘you can never have enough chilli or garlic’.
